If only it was an LS2. Then they could have called it an LS2k

I see your LS1 and raise you two cylinders. . .

I'm still shocked it fits so well. I wonder if you have to cut up the firewall to get it in there.

I don't think so. The LS engines are incredibly compact.

Holy shit! That's a special kind of crazy.

It's impressive how far back the original 4 pot is. I first looked under the hood of one and wondered when this would actually happen. It's definitely nicely done.

They're the same size as the older LT1 and SBCs, from what I've seen (mounts are the same, so dimensions must be close), which means that there are still quite a few smaller V8s out there. They're not as heavy since they're aluminum, and they might be easier to mount since lack the stupid rear-mounted distributor, but there's no way its smaller than a Ford 302. Either way, it's still a big engine for a small car.

The 302 is 5.0 liters though, the LS is 6.2. I agree there are smaller engines, but for its size it is still compact, especially compared to a DOHC engine.

External dimensions aren't tied to liters nearly as much. The Modular engine (Ford 4.6, 281 ci) is huge and actually bigger than a Ford FE 427, not just on the DOHC top end, it's bigger on the bottom too. Yet you would be hard pressed to get 427 CI out of the modular engine without boring the walls down too thin, since the bore spacing is under 4", which means that the 302 (the 'smaller' engine) actually has a higher CI potential (and more usable cylinder area) than the Modular engine.
But I digress. The LS is great for swaps, that's for sure. Still, I wonder what an S2000 would be like with an turbo NSX V6 instead of the LS engine, and if it would improve the weight offset.

This is outeffingrageous.
I would have called it LS2K, tho.

LS1 - ruining every true sports car since '97.

Think this way: the original engine was junk.

That's so tight. It looks really really good but I would hate to work on it.

After seeing this, I SOOOO want to LS2 swap in my 944.
This sounds so badass -

I'll give them that. And if all they had was an LS1 laying around, then so be it.
But if they sought a new crate motor for this project, there are so many better options. The big turn off for me is the destruction of the car's balance. Massive output doesn't do much if the tires aren't big enough and the car is too light to generate traction. And a big, heavy nose in an otherwise very nimble sports car doesn't help, either.

Eh, the LS1 is very light for a V8. Remember that it doesn't have cams, and IIRC it's all-aluminium.
Although I do agree that there are better swap options. Not to mention, it's sorta played out by this hour.
